Exterior Painting
Exterior House Painting Prepared for North Texas Weather
Outside, paint is a protective layer as much as a color. Texas sun, summer heat and storms find every gap and bare spot, so the prep underneath decides how long the finish lasts.

In short
Exterior house painting covers siding, trim, fascia, soffits, garage doors, entry doors and shutters, with washing, scraping, wood repair, caulking and priming before finish coats. It is for homeowners whose paint is peeling, chalking or faded, whose trim has soft spots, or who want to change the look of the house.
What is included
Cleaning and scraping
The house is washed to remove dirt, chalk and mildew, then loose and peeling paint is scraped and feathered so edges do not show.
Wood repair
Soft or rotted trim, fascia and siding boards are cut out and replaced or repaired before painting, instead of being painted over.
Caulking and priming
Gaps at trim, windows and siding joints are sealed with exterior caulk, and bare wood and repairs are primed for adhesion.
Finish coats
Exterior-grade paint applied to siding, trim and doors in suitable sheens, with plants, walkways, windows and fixtures protected.
What North Texas weather does to paint
Strong sun breaks down paint over time. South and west walls fade, chalk and crack first, while shaded walls may stay sound for longer. Heat makes wood siding and trim expand and contract, which pulls caulk away from joints. Wind-driven rain and hail then get into those gaps and soften the wood behind them, especially near the ground, at fascia boards and under windows.
So an exterior paint job is only as good as the repairs beneath it. A fresh coat over soft wood or open joints looks fine for a season, then the problems come back through the paint. Many Dallas–Fort Worth homes combine brick with painted wood or fiber cement trim, siding and gables, and those painted areas are where the attention goes.
The exterior process step by step
Work starts with washing to remove dirt, chalk and mildew, because paint does not bond to a dirty or chalky surface. Once dry, loose paint is scraped and edges are sanded so they do not show through the new coat. Soft wood is probed, and rotted sections are cut out and replaced. Nail heads are set and filled.
Every joint at trim, windows, doors and siding laps is caulked with a flexible exterior sealant. Bare wood, new boards and repairs are primed. Then two finish coats go on, with the weather checked daily, because paint applied in direct afternoon sun, in high heat or before rain can fail to cure properly. Temperature limits are printed on the can, and they are followed.
Landscaping is covered, walkways and driveways are protected, and outdoor lights, house numbers and hardware are masked or removed. At the end, we walk the house with you, check touch-ups and remove all the protection.
Colors, sheens and brick
Satin is common on siding because it sheds dirt without much glare; semi-gloss on trim and doors makes them easier to clean. Dark colors absorb more heat, which can stress some siding materials, so check that the color suits the product. Painting brick is possible but is a long-term commitment, because painted brick needs repainting and is very hard to return to bare. Walls, ceiling and doors in one dark color with crisp white trim, for a room that is meant to disappear when the lights go down.

Trim boards laid out in a diagonal pattern and painted the same color as the wall, so the pattern reads as texture rather than stripes.
Homeowners on Legacy
From our Google reviews
Legacy Home Solutions did a fantastic job on our pre move in remodel. They replaced all the flooring, replaced all the baseboards, remodeled the master shower, and painted the whole place. And the had to delay their start day by 2 days due to our closing being delayed. Sebastian was on site daily. He is always thinking ahead to make sure everything went smoothly. We would definitely use them again.
Very professional and prompt. Excellent results, great quality. Would absolutely recommend. Used for both carpeting and painting!
Sebastian is very profesional and does clean work installing our cabinet handles. We are happy with the outcome! will recommend it to our friends.
What time of year is best for exterior painting in North Texas?
Spring and fall usually give the most comfortable conditions, with moderate temperatures and lower chances of extreme heat. Summer painting is possible if the work follows the shade around the house and avoids hot afternoon surfaces. The paint can lists temperature and humidity limits, and rain in the forecast shifts the schedule.
Can peeling paint be painted over?
No. Peeling paint means the old coat has lost its bond, and anything applied over it will peel with it. Loose paint is scraped off, edges are sanded smooth, and bare spots are primed before new paint goes on. On older homes, lead paint testing comes before any scraping or sanding.
Do soffits and fascia need to be painted with the rest of the house?
They are usually included, because fascia takes a lot of weather and often shows the first signs of rot. Soffits are less exposed but look dingy next to fresh siding. Painting everything at once gives a consistent finish and lets us check the roofline wood for damage while the ladders are up.
Should the front door be a different color from the trim?
Many homeowners choose a contrasting front door because it gives the facade a focal point. Deep colors such as black, navy or green are common, as are natural wood tones. The door should work with the brick, roof and trim together. Doors are typically finished in a higher sheen so they are easier to clean.
